Chelsey Peterson-Zimmerer

I was born and raised in Omaha and was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 9. I was a frequent camper at Camp Hot Shots and have continued to attend camp as a counselor.

I graduated from the University of Nebraska – Omaha with a teaching degree in 2011 and have begun teaching the 3rd grade for Elkhorn Public Schools as I continue towards a Master’s Degree in education.

My background with kids has helped me to make connections and relationships with the campers and help them learn and understand their diabetes.

I hope to continue to be able to volunteer at camp in the future as a new wave of kids are introduced to the camp experience and living with diabetes.
